Second phase of mining corridor to be built first

Panaji | Nov 21, 2017: Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) chairman Deepak Pauskar on Tuesday said that the state government would use the money collected under the district mineral fund to first construct the second phase of the mining corridor from Guddemol to Capxem, Sanguem.

He said chief minister Manohar Parrikar has given his approval to constitute a committee to release the funds. Mines department officials say that until the committee is constituted, the government cannot touch the district mineral fund.

Pauskar said that around Rs 104 crore of the Rs 480 crore under the district mineral fund would be used for this construction.

Goa Mineral Ore Exporters' Association (GMOEA) wanted the second phase constructed first. The other phase is in the Quepem-Sanguem mining belt.

With unbearable dust pollution, fatal road accidents, and vehicular movement through mining belt villages proving a perennial problem, there have been demands for construction of a dedicated mining corridor.
