KOLKATA | Nov 16, 2017: Coal India, in collaboration with the Indian Railways managed to load 250 rakes of coal on Tuesday – the highest in November which is a new record.
It is now targeting to load 266 rakes a day to achieve its targeted average loading of 250 rakes a day for the year. In the medium term, the monopoly intends to load 300 rakes through Indian Railways.
This would help power companies generate to demand. Of late a large number of stations had to reduce generation due to non-availability of adequate coal.
On Wednesday’s edition ET reported that the company was aiming to achieve an average loading of 250 rakes for the year and its average loading for the year was 216 rakes a day. ET further reported that Coal India managed to load 249 rakes on Monday – which was close to the target. Of this 224 went to the power sector.
On Tuesday, out of the 250 rakes loaded, 233 went to the power sectors while the rest was for the non-power sector. The targeted average of 250 rakes has been arrived at to make sure that the monopoly can send adequate quantities to both the power and the non-power sector.
At present, focus is on sending more rakes to the power sector because it is witnessing a shortage of stocks at a large number of plants. Stocks at 112 power plants monitored by the Central Electricity Authority was close to 8.2 million tonnes and it was enough for six days. Some 23 plants had critical stocks position.
