Ranchi | Nov 02, 2017: The three-day Jharkhand Mining Show (JMS) 2017 – Mining and Minerals Summit – ended here on Wednesday with the state government signing three more MoUs.
The Jharkhand Government signed the MoUs with Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (MECL) for undertaking mineral exploration to identify prospective mineral blocks, with Vedanta for setting up a Steel plant in Jharkhand, and with Shree Cements for setting up a cement plant in Jharkhand.
Addressing the gathering on the concluding day, C P Singh, state Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Transport, said the state is on the fast track of development work. “The government will create forums like JMS and come up with more and more opportunities for businesses,” he said.
Jharkhand’s MoU with MECL will give mineral exploration in the state a significant boost, said the dignitaries present at the Valedictory Session held at the HEC Ground. The summit was organised by the state government and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
On the inaugural day of the three-day summit, an MoU was signed between the Government of Jharkhand and Coal India Limited for waste water treatment and supply of water for drinking and irrigation to the people. On the same day, Adani Group proposed to invest INR 20,000 crore in the state over the next 5 years which will lead to creation of 10,000 jobs. BEML on the other hand is also looking to expand its operations in Jharkhand.
Also present during today’s event, Asha Lakra, Mayor, Ranchi Municipal Corporation, expressed hope that Jharkhand will become a leader state in the country in the years to come.
Arun Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, praised the State Government for its proactive approach in transforming its rich mineral wealth into a source of high economic growth, employment generation and societal happiness. Jharkhand is doing a commendable job in the utilization of the District Mineral Fund, Kumar said, adding that the Central Government will continue working shoulder to shoulder with the state Government to help it realize its true potential. With enabling policies and efficient administration, exploration in Jharkhand will get a boost, Kumar said, adding that the future is bright for Jharkhand.
Rajbala Verma, Chief Secretary, Government of Jharkhand, said, “As mentioned by the CM, growth of mining industry doesn’t only mean extraction of the minerals or export of ore, but development of an entire ecosystem to support the mining activities in the State. OEMs and OCMs will play an important role to fulfill the vision of CM and State,” verma said.
“The Government of Jharkhand wanted to provide a platform wherein all the stakeholders involved in the mining landscape could come together and discuss the issues and opportunities in the mining sector in Jharkhand. OEMs, OCMs and other industries were provided a platform where they could demonstrate their technical prowess to their target audience,” she said.
Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Secretary, Department of Industries, Mines and Geology, Jharkhand; said the success of the maiden summit lies in the fact that in a short time the Summit has attracted the attention of leading corporates and their heads. “About 60 companies dealing in mining, exploration, manufacturing, components, etc, have taken part. This goes to prove that Jharkhand is firmly on course to becoming the India’s No 1 Mining Destination,” he said.
In all five technical sessions were organized featuring top experts. It was known that the State Government will discuss and deliberate on the issues identified and probable solutions discussed during last 3 days, and take appropriate actions.
Arvind K. Garg, EVP & Head – Construction & Mining Machinery Business Group, Larsen & Toubro and President, ICEMA, described JMS 2017 as a great platform to attract world attention to Jharkhand’s potential in the mining and minerals sector. According to him, Make in Jharkhand is an inspiring slogan.
Atul Bhatt, Chairman & Managing Director, Mecon Limited; said the timing of JMS 2017 is “excellent”, for a lot of modifications laws and policies, each aimed at making mining an easier proposition, are taking place. “Here the Government is resilient and its intent pro-people,” he said.
Dr Gopal Dhawan, Chairman cum Managing Director, Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd; too praised the Jharkhand Government for its resolve to make Jharkhand the ultimate destination for investors in mining-related manucaturing activities.
Sunil Bhaskaran, Chairman CII Jharkhand State Council, “We from CII had several rounds of discussion with the State Government and decided to organise the first ever Jharkhand Mining Show: Global Mining & Minerals Summit here at Ranchi.
