PONDA | Oct 26, 2017: Considering the chances of law and order situation in the area, Dharbandora deputy collector Agnelo Fernandes has denied mining companies from permission to start the ore transportation with police protection on Wednesday during the joint meeting held at Dharbandora.
“Majority of the local truck owners are against ore transportation as their price hike demand is pending and there are chances of law and order situation in the area. Considering that permission has been denied”, said deputy collector Agnelo Fernandes.
Dharbandora deputy collector and SDPO Quepem Sammy Tavares had conveyed the joint meeting, which was attended by mining company officials, transport contractor, local village sarpanch, Ponda police inspector, Quepem police inspector, mamletdar and around 50 truck owners.
A mining company had asked for police protection to transport ore from Coldi to Sanvordem, and to discuss the issue the deputy collector and SDPO Quepem had decided to hold a joint meeting before granting any permission, informed Agnelo Fernandes.
During the meeting the mining companies had demanded for police protection to start mining, while the local sarpanch and truck owners stuck with their demand of price hike before commencement of any transportation.
