The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is going to kick-start its festival called Geo Resource Engineering and Technology – Students, Teachers and Employers Partnership (GREAT STEP) from October 13, 2017. Students from across the country can attend the event which will include mining-related events including robotics and case studies.
The fest will also include quiz events like ‘Quiz Spiel’ and ‘Mineac, Mineindite’ and paper presentations, a press release by the institute announced on Monday. The Technology Mining Engineering Society (TMES) of the Department of Mining Engineering at IITKGP is also hosting a summit. About 250 registrations have been received so far from 20 universities for the summit.
The fest will begin on October 13 and will run until October 15. It aims to provide students a platform to interact with leaders in the mining and allied industries and will focus on the students’ talents at solving challenging problems, according to the release.
Three high school students from Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Bhulinagar, Dhanbad will be awarded by Master Geotech Services LLC, which is based in the US, for their hand in the creation of a ‘Mine Safety Robot’ using their own resources.
The GREAT STEP fest will also include a challenge on national mining innovation.
