NAINITAL | Sept 14, 2017: The Uttarakhand high court on Thursday recalled its earlier order which directed the state government to act on instructions of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and shut down all stone crushing plants operating within 5 km of Ganga in Haridwar district. The order comes as a relief to stone crushing units.
The Trivendra Rawat government had filed a review application against the order dated May 3, 2017, stating that according to the state policy, mining activities cannot be carried out within 500 metres of any river bank.
Ajay Veer Pundir, counsel for the petitioner, told TOI, “The honourable court recalled the order after the review application from the state government said that the order is against the state policy of mining.”
The CPCB had ordered the closure of stone crushers within 5km of Ganga on December 6, 2016. On August 25 this year, 43 stone crushers within 5 km of Ganga were sealed by Haridwar district administration.
