SCCL tracks coal trucks using GPS

BHADRADRI-KOTHAGUDEM | July 30, 2017: In yet another technology-aided initiative, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has introduced a GPS-based vehicle tracking system at Gowthamkhani Open Cast Project (OCP) to monitor the movement of vehicles transporting coal from the OCP to its Coal Handling Plant (CHP) at Rudrampur in the Kothagudem region.

SCCL sources said the introduction of vehicle tracking system marks a significant step to effectively monitor the dispatch of coal from the OCP to the CHP, check the entry of unauthorised vehicles into the OCP premises and facilitate prompt loading and unloading operations.

The modern system helps maintain electronic surveillance at the loading and unloading points in a transparent manner.

Boom barriers have been installed at the entry and exit points in a strategic manner as part of the RFID-based vehicle access control system.

Arrangements have been put in place to capture the vehicle number plates through a network of CCTV cameras installed at the bunkers and other strategic locations on the OCP premises, sources added.

According to the SCCL sources, the JVR Open Cast Project in Sattupalli in Khammam district already has the vehicle tracking system.

The company is contemplating to extend the facility to all the OCPs and coal handling plants elsewhere in the coal belt region as part of its major thrust on technology upgradation in its open cast mines.
