Dhanbad pledges to plant a future

Students of IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, plant saplings to mark World Environment Day on Monday.

Dhanbad celebrated World Environment Day on Monday with a slew of events organised by entities such as Tata Steel, Sijua Group, IIT(ISM), Central Industrial Security Force's BCCL unit and more.

 

The Jharia division of Tata Steel planted around 400 saplings of 24 plant varieties at Sir Dorabji Tata Park in Jamadoba.

 

The plantation drive at the park, which is being developed as a medicinal garden, was carried out in the presence of Subrata Das, chief (Jamadoba group) Tata Steel's Jharia division, and chief of engineering services Debashis Banerjee.

 

Around 5,000 fruit-bearing plants such as coconut, mango, guava, papaya and lemon were distributed among employees of Tata Steel's Jharia division units at Jamadoba and Sijua.

 

Sijua Group planted 150 saplings of white tagegar, Ficus, bottle palm, karanj, Alostromia hybrid in the presence of company chief Jasbir Singh. Besides around 100 medicinal plants were planted on the premises of company's Bhelatand Club.

 

A technical deliberation on "Connecting People with Nature" was hosted by the Dhanbad chapter of the Institute of Engineers (India) in association with Tata Steel Jharia Division at Professional Training Institute in Jamadoba. Former vice chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University Gurdeep Singh was present as the chief guest.

 

A similar programme was organised at IIT(ISM), Dhanbad during which its director Durga Charan Panigrahi and other teachers planted saplings on institute premises.

 

A sit-and-draw for schoolchildren and a poster-making contest for IIT(ISM) students were also arranged during the occasion.

 

A plantation drive was conducted at CISF's BCCL unit in the presence of CISF DIG U.K. Dey as the chief guest.
