CHENNAI | May 31, 2017: Tamil Nadu State Sand Lorry Owner's Federation on Tuesday sought the state government to launch online booking for mining sand from the quarries.
Addressing a press conference here, federation's president S Yuvaraj said the move would enable sand lorry transporters to know the status at quarries. "The current waiting time for trucks is 10 days," he said.
Former national president of the Builders Association of India R Radhakrishnan charged that officials were creating an artificial demand for sand, which has hit the construction industry to the core.
"Hardly 25% of construction activities are being carried out. In the event of steps are not being taken to reopen the quarries, the situation may turn worse," he said.
The Tamil Nadu State Sand Lorry Owner's Federation will stage a protest on June 8 to draw the attention of the government to redress their grievances.
