NEW DELHI | May 23, 2017: An inter-ministerial meet on opening coal mining to private companies is scheduled to be held on Thursday, power, coal, renewable energy and mines minister Piyush Goyal said.
The government has finished consultations with stakeholders and is likely to finalise guidelines for commercial coal mining post the inter-ministerial consultations.
The meeting will be headed by coal secretary Susheel Kumar and will be attended by senior officials from the ministries of power, coal, steel and law among others.
The government had earlier said it will kick-start private commercial coal mining in the country in the next financial year with the auction of four mines.
