SCCL eyes Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance in all mines

BHADRADRI-KOTHAGUDEM | May 24, 2017:

Having pioneered in harnessing the potential of Information Technology in its broad spectrum of coal exploration and mining activities, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is toying with the idea of introducing the Aadhaar-enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in all its coal mines and departments spread in various districts, including Bhadradri-Kothagudem, soon.

The SCCL has already introduced biometric attendance system in its five-decade-old PVK 5 incline mine in Kothagudem area and head office in the district headquarters town of Kothagudem on a pilot basis.

The SCCL management has issued a circular to the company officials in all its 11 coal producing areas to update the database of the employees including the coal miners to upload the details of all employees such as their Aadhaar card numbers on the company's portal by the month-end, SCCL sources said.

The State-owned company has renewed its focus on procurement of suitable biometric devices and other paraphernalia to pave the way for full-fledged adoption of the AEBAS in the entire company at the earliest.

According to SCCL sources, the digital initiative is poised to bring transparency and accountability in recording and monitoring the attendance of employees besides increasing productivity and promoting a positive work culture in the company.
