Bhopal | April 18, 2017: The Central Zone Bench of National Green Tribunal on Monday issued notices to state pollution control board, secretary MP government and director general of mines safety (DGMS), MP on a plea by Lord Hanuman. The petition demanded closure of a mine near a temple in Guna and sought damages worth Rs 1 crore.
The bench admitted the petitioner "Lord Hunaman's" plea point which claims that seven children had drowned in the abandoned mining quarries that are filled with water.
NGT received the interesting petition filed by Devendra Bhargava, who made lord Hanuman as the petitioner. The case is legally accepted by tribunal under file name "Anjanisut lord Hanuman Vs state government under application number 47/2017(CZ).
"Bhargava, a resident of Guna in his petition said besides children's death due to the drowning in abandoned mines the idol of lord Hanuman presiding deity at a local temple was damaged by explosions carried out at stone mines in the area," said the counsel for the petitioner Dharamveer Sharma.
He told TOI that the case has been admitted by the bench and notices has also been issued to the three respondents.
The ancient Anjanisut Hanuman Mandir is situated at Piprouda Khurd about 220 kms from the state capital. Over the years, cracks have developed on the idol because of regular blasts at the mine sites, Sharma alleged.
"I Hanuman, son of Anjani, request the NGT to shut the stone mine located near my temple as the regular blasts in the quarries led to cracks in my idol. The blast in the quarries should be stopped and the deep quarries should be filed," reads the petition.
