OMMSWCC launches first of its Kind in the Country-a Mobile Application "OMMSAPP"

 

Bhubaneswar | March 20, 2017: Odisha Metalliferous Mine Safety Week Celebration Committee (OMMSWCC) operating under the aegis of the Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), launched the Web Site of OMMSWCC namely “www.ommswcc.org” today at a star hotel in Bhubaneswar.

 

This is the first ever mobile mining application of its kind in country.This APP has ambitious programme on a specially designed calendarto pump in educative clips, films, messages, appeals, etc. connected to mining subjects, which can be downloaded by every worker using the APP and learn and improve his own skills and the quality of work in mines. Provisions have also been made for discussions on various subjects of mining like drilling, method of work, machine maintenance, etc.. Plans are also afoot to have online competitions, etc., with voluntary participation from all levels.

 

In his address, Shri S.N.Padhi appealed to all to use both launched tools effectively and regularly so as to mature into a full-fledged system on its own. Shri R. Subramanian highlighted the potential of digital platforms on transforming conventional management in mines, specially in skill upgradation of the working classwhich also is an ambitious programme of the Central Government. Shri Sanjeev Das, Shri H.S.Rathore and Shri Anil Singhewar requested all Officers present to ensure that the digital initiatives are nurtured and grown in capacity, acceptability and quality.

 

The launching ceremony was attended by Shri R. Subramanian – Director of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar Region of DGMS, Shri N.K.Sriram, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar Region of DGMS, Shri Sanjeev Das – Sr. Vice President & Head Mining BU-IMFA, Shri A.K.Mohapatra, Head - OSCOM, Shri H.S.Rathore, Vice President of Raw Material and Mine Planning,ACC, Shri Anil Singhewar- Dir(Plant) of Bargarh Cements of ACC and Senior Mining Professionals from renowned mining companies like ACC ltd, IMFA, IRE Ltd, Balasore Alloys Limited, Tata Steels Ltd, FACOR, OMC Ltd, Tata Refractories Ltd, Free World Granites, Royal Granites, Utkal Alumina Ltd, Nalco, etc. Shri S.N.Padhi– Retd. Director, General of Mines Safety was also present during the launching ceremony.

 

OMMSWCC is essentially a promotional platform having been formed under the aegis of the Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, for spreading safety awareness in mines. Presently, in its 34 year of existence, the committee covers the vital mineral spectrum of Chromite, Limestone, Bauxite, Granite, Rare Earths, Graphite, etc. produced from about 40 mines located in 27 districts of the mineral rich State of Odisha.

 

With the launching of “OMMSWCC”, all its activities including a rich archive of educative materials like animation pictures, technical papers, slogans, etc., prepared in the recent years, are now available for use by all member mines and the entire mining family of the State and the Country.

 

“OMMSAPP” mobile application wis launched specially for ensuring multi-level reach amongst workers, supervisors, officers, senior executives, mine owners of member mines and outside also.

 

OMMSWCC feels extremely proud on this achievement and expects to use both the launched tools effectively to reduce the conventional barrier which exists between & amongst different groups of workers, supervisors, officers, senior officials, owners, etc. in mines and mining companies in respect of technical improvements for ensuring safe and productive mines. This will help the overall knowledge gain of a person and his technical excellence &confidence, thus resulting in complete transformation in the member mines.
