Govt plans to give sanction for large-scale mining on leased lands

Kozhikode | Feb 28, 2017: The state government is planning to amend the guidelines related to leasing of land which may pay way for large-scale mining on such lands.

If the government goes ahead with the amendment, this would help establishment of quarries and mining of clay on filled land.

The matter was discussed at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister on December 28 last year. The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister, Industries Minister, Agriculture Minister and Local-Self Government Minister.

The meeting had decided to appoint an expert agency to study the feasibility of collecting clay without disturbing the ecological balance from land reclaimed before 2008 and which is not included in the Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act.
