Bermo police launched an anti-coal smuggling operation in the Maoist-prone Tarabera area of Bermo block on Thursday and seized 5 tractors loaded with illegal coal around 20 tonnes and two persons identified as Dharma Singh and Karma Ganju were arrested. Illegal mining activities of coal smugglers in the forest have been busted .the intension of the police was to break the financial backbone of the Maoists as well as coal smugglers apart from curbing illegal trade of coals, said SDPO, Bermo Raj Kumar Mehta.

While the Bokaro SP, Y.S. Ramesh said that illegal coal mining in these forests is a major revenue generation points for Maoists and coal mafias’. The rebels take heavy amount of money as levy from the coal smugglers and provide them shelter in return.
