Cuddalore | Feb 05, 2017: Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Limited chairman and managing director S K Acharya has been conferred honoris causa (D Litt) by Utkal University, Odisha for his contributions to the fields of human resources management and corporate social responsibility.
Odisha governor S C Jamir, who is also the chancellor Utkal University, presented the degree to Acharya during the 48th convocation ceremony of the university at Bhubaneswar, said a statement from NLC.
Acharya, after his successful stints in Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (Bhel), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and NTPC-Sail Power Company Private Limited (NSPCL) has been spearheading business promotion at NLC India Limited for the past seven years. He served as director (human resources) before taking over as the chairman and managing director of the Navratna mining and power company.
Under his leadership the company doubled its installed mining capacity from 30.6 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 62 MTPA including coal and lignite. The company is currently poised to touch 20,000MW power generation. Acharya has been championing the cause of ethical business and governance in his 36-year career.
