The Karimnagar District Lorry Owners’ Association leaders have alleged large-scale irregularities and corruption by the State Mineral Development Corporation authorities and police officials at Kodurupaka sand quarry in Rajanna-Sircilla district.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, association president Ama Anand and general secretary Syed Komruddin have charged that the TSMDC and police officials are resorting to corrupt practices and causing huge loss to the State exchequer. The lorry owners in spite of paying ₹6,400 for 10-tyre vehicle as bill for collection of sand from the quarry, the Mee Seva authorities collect an additional ₹2,000 for the issuance of necessary online slot and clearance.
The mining authorities at the sand quarry collect ₹500 per lorry for parking in order. If the lorry owners pay ₹2,000, there is no queue line and sand is loaded directly into the vehicle. After showing the bills, the mining authorities should fill 10.5 cubic meters of sand in the lorry, and an additional 1.5 tonnes as it would be wet. At the check-posts, the authorities are collecting ₹1,000 per lorry and not stamping on the bills so that the lorry owners could again go to the quarry and load sand. They said that the lorry owners with one bill are making three trips in collusion with the MDC and police officials. Every day, about 500 lorries collect sand from the quarry, and officials are collecting huge amount of money as mamools, they alleged.
Flaying the State Government for claiming that they are ensuring total transparency at the sand quarry, they demanded a thorough inquiry into the happenings at Kodurupaka sand quarry and punish the guilty MDC officials. They said that the price of sand in the open market is escalating because of payment of mamools to the mining and police officials.
