DIRECTOR General of Police (DGP) Rishikumar Shukla assured strict action against those involved in crime against women, drug trafficking, illegal mining of sand from Narmada, cyber crime, road accidents and Naxal menace. Plans are being chalked out to deal with new challenges to control illegal mining of sand from river Narmada, illegal sale of liquor and wine and to deal with increasing cyber crime, crime against women and children. DGP Shukla was addressing a press conference at Police Control room during his short visit to the city on Wednesday.
DGP Shukla said that the main focus is to control crime rate effectively. Strategies are being chalked out to stop illegal mining of sand across Narmada belt in Madhya Pradesh. In this work plan we are targeting nexus of sand miners and transporters in collaboration with other departments to control the menace. He said our focus is to stop illegal sand mining completely.
Simultaneously, after demonetisation and rise in ratio percentage of cash transactions, cases of cyber crime are also increasing in the State. To deal with the challenge of trapping people involved in hi-tech cyber crime, Madhya Pradesh Police will tie-up with cyber security expert organisation NESCOM to train cops to investigate Cyber Crime cases. Over 500 selected officers will be given training. In main districts of the State, Nodal Police stations will be set-up with advanced facilities needed to investigate cyber crime related cases. Similarly, another major challenge is to control deaths caused in road accidents. Previous year, around 10,000 people lost their lives in road accidents. Police are making strategy to bring down mortality rate in road accidents and also working on reforms to provide medical assistance at the earliest to people injured in road accidents, added DGP Shukla. Commenting on the issue of Naxal menace in the State, DGP Rishikumar Shukla claimed that our borders are secured from Naxal infiltration from adjoining states. In previous year, Naxal activities had increased in Balaghat district. Naxals had killed two people while committed about 10 crimes in the district. Naxals in Madhya Pradesh have a tie up with other organisations in other states and are planning to spread tentacles in Madhya Pradesh. Police have information on this issue and are keeping vigil on all their activities. Replying to a query about people’s resentment after transfer of Superintendent of Police, Katni, Gaurav Tiwari, DGP Shukla said, “Gaurav is our pride, and he refused to comment further on this issue. On Thursday, new SP Katni will assume office, he said. Ongoing investigation in Hawala case will be done in a transparent manner.
