Mines ministry issues directions to states to rescue 150 leases set to lapse next week

NEW DELHI | Jan 05, 2017: The mines ministry on Thursday issued notification to states to renew mining leases that were executed before amendment of Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act.

This wil save about 150 mining leases, saved under Section 10(a) 2c of the act at the time of amendment, from lapsing next week, sources said.

The ministry's notification said that the forest clearance for such mines can be obtained later. A similar notification on obtaining clearance for Tribal Affairs rights is likely to be issued on Friday.
