Tata Steel bagged 21 prizes for its Iron ore Mines and 9 prizes for its Manganese ore Mines in various categories in the 54th Annual Mines Safety Week Celebration 2016 of Chaibasa region hosted by KJS Ahluwalia Group which was concluded in Barbil on 18th of December, 2016. Dr A K Sinha, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, South Eastern Region graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for this programme. Satish Kumar, DMS, Chaibasa was also present as one of the dignitaries.
Noamundi Iron Mine won seven prizes including the 1st prize in the Overall Performance category, followed by five prizes each by Joda East Iron Mine and Khondbond Iron Mine and 4 prizes by Katamati Iron Mine. Joda west Manganese Mine won 6 prizes including 1st prize in the Overall Performance category followed by Bamebari , Malda and Tiring Pahar Manganese mines, each having one prize.
The Annual Mines Safety Week is celebrated by all the mines operating in Chaibasa region under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Ministry of Labour & Employment, and Government of India to propagate the message of safety at the workplace and inculcate safe mining practices amongst the mine workers.
The main purpose of this celebration was to involve all mine owners and employees to work towards improving safe work practices and to significantly reduce accidents in mines as well as mining industry as a whole.
As a result of these endless and collaborative efforts by the DGMS Officials and Mines Management, rate of accident in mining industry has significantly reduced over the past decade.
