The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in India saw a drop of 1.1% as compared to the same month in 2015 whereas the total value of mineral production, excluding atomic and minor minerals during October 2016 stood at Rs 19,359 crore, according to a press release.
The cumulative growth for the period April- October 2016-17 over the corresponding period of previous year had been (-) 0.2%, the release added.
According to the release, the contribution of coal was the highest at Rs 7.536 crore. Next in the order of importance were Petroleum (crude) at Rs 5,545 crore, Natural gas (utilized) at Rs 2,206 crore, Iron ore at Rs 2,047 crore, Lignite at Rs 527 crore and Limestone at Rs 548 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in October 2016.
