10 held for illegal sand mining

DHANBAD | Oct 20, 2016: In an operation against rampant illegal mining in Giridih, Dumri circle officer Ravindra Pandey on Wednesday seized at least 10 tractors carrying illegal sand from different river beds falling under Nimiyaghat and Dumri police station areas of the district. Over ten illegal miners, including villagers, were also held for investigation.

"Based on a tip off, we, along with Dumri and Nimiyaghat police, visited the suspected areas and caught 10 tractors carrying illegal sand from four river beds including Rangamati, Uttarwahini, Karihari and Asnasingha ghats. The areas come under Numiyaght and Dumri police station areas of Dumri block, close to the Giridih-Dhanbad border," Pandey said. "While few miners produced receipts of Belatand Balughat in Dhanbad, others failed to do so. They are lifting sands from river beds located in remote areas, which are neither identified nor auctioned by district authorities", Pandey said.
