Balconagar(Raipur) | Aug 31, 2016: The Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO) has received the ‘Best India CSR Project Award’.
This has been awarded for its Project Jalgram-‘Towards Sustainable Livelihood’ in the category-‘Agriculture Development’, a company press release informed.
The award was presented in a glittering award ceremony held in Bangalore and was received on behalf of Balco by B.K.Sriwastwa, Head-Community Relations and Ashish Ranjan, Head - CSR.
Under Project Jalgram, 288 acres of land have been covered with perennial irrigation by help of check dams, bunds, etc. This has helped farmers get a second crop and there by leading to an increase in the income of farmers. It has also reduced the dependency on rainfall.
Meanwhile, Balco has distributed necessary materials under its Community Development Programme to 25 schools and 22 anganwadis in its Chotiya Mines area.
The programme was organised in Gupachur Panchayat Bhawan in Chotiya Mines area. Ram Dayal Uike, MLA, Chief Guest in the function praised Balco’s efforts in organising the programme.
Uike said that from the purpose of promoting education in Chotiya area, the distribution of different materials to schools and anganwadis of the area was a wonderful initiative.
He also added that Balco and Vedanta Group as a whole were bringing global pride to the Nation.
Uike was hopeful that Balco’s Community Development works will bring bountiful benefits to the residents of the area. Kiran Markam, Chairperson, Janpad Panchayat and Special Guest at the function said that it was a matter of great pleasure for her to be amidst people of the area for a community development programme of this nature.
She explained the importance and necessity of education and said that it was necessary to make education facilities more stronger for the bright future of children and also appealed to the residents of the area to take advantage of the different schemes of the Government.
Baba Khan, local representative of the area and special guest at the function praised Balco’s initiative in the distribution of materials in schools and anganwadis of the area.
He expressed his gratitude towards Balco for the programme which was connected with the improvement of educational facilities in the area.
The programme was accomplished in the presence of Rajiv Kumar, AGM, Mines, Balco, Ashish Ranjan, Head-CSR, Balco and many Balco officers and villagers.
