Valedictory function of Mines Safety Week at Lignite Hall

 

Neyveli | Aug 23, 2016: Behavioural attitude of an individual alone will reduce accidents rather than enforcing laws, said Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Chennai Region, Shyam Mishra.

 

Participating in the valedictory function of Mines Safety Week at Lignite Hall, Neyveli on Monday, he said cell phone menace has increased the number of accidents and people succumbed to injuries when they use mobile phones at work spot.

 

NLC executive director (Mines) S A Fateh Khalid said that most of the accidents are caused only due to human failures, though a full-fledged safety management system is in existence.

 

The company is practising Integrated Risk Management System approach and is consistently making efforts to implement Professor R M Bhattacharya’s recommendations for safety in mines, he said.

 

Safety Week-2016 was observed by NLC India Ltd at Neyveli from 8 to 21 August. Various units of NLC had put up stalls showcasing the safety models to be adopted while at work and innovative steps to improve the safety management systems.

 

Various competitions were held on the topic ‘Safety’ and the winners were awarded prizes. Based on the recommendation of the safety inspection team for adoption of innovative system in Mine II, Conveyor and Electrical Mines Division was awarded for its new innovation. Special award was also given to NLC general hospital for creating health awareness.
