India’s KIOCL likely to secure captive iron ore mine

Date | Jul 19, 2016: Indian iron ore pellet manufacturer, KIOCL Limited (formerly Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) is likely to secure a captive iron ore mine possibly in the Bellary district in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, an Indian Ministry of Steel official said on Tuesday, July 19.

The ministry official said that the government of Karnataka has already recommended the allotment of a captive iron ore mine to KIOCL and the Ministry of Steel will follow up the proposal with its counterparts at the Ministry of Mines in securing necessary approvals.

KIOCL which does not have a captive iron ore mine is dependent on commercial purchases of raw materials to feed its pelletization plant and has even resorted to imports of iron ore from Iran and Brazil to meet requirements for production of pellets for export, the official said.
