Illegal sand mining on River Son under Green panel scrutiny

Sand mining norms violations on river Son is under Green Panel scrutiny. In a petition it was alleged that certain sand mining quarries in village Manpur, Tehsil & District Anupur, (which is a river sand mining quarry on river Son for 160000 cum/year by open cast manual method ) has environment clearance for mining not exceeding 80000 cum/year apart. However, it is submitted that despite the aforesaid recommendation, SEIAA without assigning any reasons for not accepting the recommendation of SEAC, enhancing the capacity twice the one recommended by SEAC has committed an error of law.

 

Accordingly notices were issued. Son River of Central India is the second largest of the Ganges southern tributaries after Yamuna River.The Son originates near Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh. The bailable warrant against the person in question was ordered on May 9.The same was dispatched by the Registry to the Superintendant of Police, Jabalpur Neither the bailable warrant has been returned nor anyone is present either in person or through the Counsel in court on Wednesday. NGT has asked the Registry is directed to send a reminder to the Superintendant of Police, Jabalpur to return warrant after due service. Next hearing of the matter is listed for August 16. Earlier, in another hearing it was brought to notice that It was also directed the State to establish a check post on the point of junction for checking all the vehicles bringing in sand into the city of Bhopal.

 

The ravannas will be checked and the registration number of the vehicle shall be put on the said ravanna. Since it is noticed that most of the vehicle do not bear the registration number, such vehicles shall immediately be dealt under the Motor Vehicles Act and also under NGT direction for being liable to be seized by the authorities. No equipments, vehicles or mineral so seized shall be released without reference to the tribunal.
