MAPUSA | Jul 15, 2016: Two canoes were detained by authorities in a raid against illegal sand extraction in Chapora river on Thursday.
Following complaints of illegal sand extraction, in a joint operation, officials of the captain of ports, mines and geology department and police conducted a raid at Camurlim in River Chapora and detained two canoes, while eight others engaged in illegal extraction managed to escape.
Bardez joint mamlatdar Ravi Nipanikar, Mandar Naik, Pravin Parab, circle inspector Gurudas Mandrekar and officers of the captain of ports department conducted the inspection of the entire area of the sand extraction site in Camurlim and will be submitting a report to Bardez deputy collector Narayan Gad.
