New Delhi | July 06, 2016: Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh announced to reimburse the entire higher education fee of students of families rehabilitated in mining areas.

They have decided to reimburse fee for medical engineering, ITI, agriculture colleges and other institutions of higher learning from the District Mineral Fund (DMF) to be utilised for development of mining areas," he said while inaugurating the first national conclave on mines and minerals.

He said poor residents from Korba to Raigarh will be provided with domestic gas connections free of cost under Prime Minister Ujjwala Scheme on a nominal registration fee of Rs 200. Referring to Centre's new mining policy, he said contribution of minerals is crucial for the economic progress of nation. Singh also launched District Mining Foundation as part of the Prime Minister Minerals' Region Welfare Scheme. The foundation will cater to the needs of local residents in mining regions regarding education, health, drinking water and roads. Extra funds will be allocated for development of the mining-affected areas.
