2-day National Conclave on mines & minerals begins in Raipur on Monday

 

RAIPUR | Jul 03, 2016: The Ministry of Mines is organising a two-day 'National Conclave on Mines and Minerals' jointly with Chhattisgarh government in the state capital from Monday.

 

This event, the first of its kind in the country, will be continued as an annual event and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been invited on this occasion for the inaugural session. Besides, Union Minister of Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar and chief minister of Chhattisgarh Dr Raman Singh have accorded their consent to participate the Conclave.

 

A Round Table will be organised after the inaugural session for interacting with major industry leaders. Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) has agreed to partner for holding the workshop.

 

The Conclave will provide a platform to showcase the recent policy initiatives by the Government of India and enable intensive discussion on the issues, challenges and opportunities in the mining sector to realise its optimum potential for the sustainable development of the country.

 

It will help the central government to further improve the policy environment to promote best practices and address various issues in the mining sector.

 

According to a senior officer in state mining department, the National Conclave on Mines and Minerals appears to be essential at this time, not only to disseminate various developments in mining policies and activities, but also to gather solidarity in approach for addressing the issues in mining sector.

 

The Conclave may have select participants invited to share policies, ideas, experiences, successes, lessons and to discuss possible alternatives - Mining and allied metal & cement industries - with an overwhelming number of confirmations having already been received from all across the industry, including iron ore & manganese mining, chrome ore mining & ferrochrome industry, steel industry (Integrated steel plants), sponge iron, pig iron & pellet manufacturers and many others. Various technical sessions will also be held in the Conclave covering key topics like national mineral exploration policy, initiatives in mineral policy and regulations, framework for offshore mineral, framework for atomic mineral and raw material scenario for steel industry.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched 'Make in India' programme on December 25, 2014, encompassing all vital areas in the manufacturing sector of economy. The Ministry has contributed for Make in India efforts by bringing about various changes in the policy framework, legislations and regulations.

 

The Ministry has also made significant progress in adopting Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) laying down high quality standards for minimising the impact of mining on the environment, building competitive advantage, etc.

 

The mining sector is also undergoing through a transitional phase of uncertainties in the international manufacturing scenarios created by slack demand from China triggering a downward trend in the international commodity market, the officer said.
