Convert deserted mining pits into environ projects: Parsekar

 

Panaji | Jul 3, 2016: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today mooted the idea of converting exhausted mining pits into environmental projects.

 

"The deserted (exhausted) mining pits should be converted into hospitality or environmental projects (and) then we will be able to balance the environment," he told reporters here.

 

The Chief Minister planted a tree as part of the plantation drive undertaken by the states Forest Department.

 

He said his government has taken all required precautions to ensure environment is not damaged after resumption of the mining activity (in the state).

 

Referring to his recent visit to Sesa Iron Ores rehabilitated mining pit at Sanquelim village, Parsekar said other mine owners should learn from the rehabilitation executed by the company.

 

Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar said Goas greenery has to be retained considering it is the part of Western Ghats.

 

"Goa has a rich ecological biodiversity and we should maintain it," he said.
