State observes half-yearly mines safety week

 

Bhubaneswar | 10 June, 2016: Directorate General of Mines Safety to spread awareness on first aid to all the contractors workers in the Sukinda valley.

 

As many as 240 nominated contractual employees form all the mines in the valley attended the event and PR Ghadei, MLA, Sukinda, Bhagabati Mahanta, Chairman, Sukinda Block, R Subramanium, DMS, Bhubaneswar region, Nagendra Kumar Sriram, DDMS, Bhuvaneswar region and Pankaj Satija , GM(operations), FAMD Tata Steel were the guests at the inaugural.

 

Two personnel from St John Ambulance Association Dr RN Nath and Ganesh Barik elaborated upon the need for First Aid and its utilization at workplace and at home. The team of St John Ambulance Association explained first aid requirement for all types of fractures and wounds, snake bites, cardio pulmonary respiratory management, all types of burns, other injuries during mining, etc.

 

Live demonstrations of life saving skills were made by trained first aide experts from Tata Steel Sukinda Chromite Mine and IMFA. To give major impetus to safety and to increase the presence of Odisha Metalliferous Mines Safety Week Celebrations Committee (OMMSWCC), the new concept of Half Yearly Safety Week was celebrated in Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.

 

It is the first time in the country that such six monthly safety week is being celebrated in the state.
