Sand mining ban in Dakshina Kannada from June 15

 

Mangaluru | June 7, 2016 : In view of the fish breeding monsoon season, sand mining has been banned in Dakshina Kannada district for 60 days from June 15 to August15.

 

The announcement was made by district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim at a review meeting to discuss the preparedness for the monsoon season here on Monday, an official release said.

 

Builders of government structures had been advised to put together enough stock of sand before the ban comes into effect.

 

Inter-district sand transportation will also remain banned during the period, the release said.

 

During the meeting, Ibrahim said 74 cases had been registered for illegal sand transportation during the last few weeks.

 

Udupi district Deputy Commissioner R Vishal had also announced that sand mining would be banned from June 1 to July 31 in the district.
