The State government on Tuesday informed the Madras High Court that it would need more time to provide a “composite picture” on the alleged illegal granite mining on which a detailed report has been filed by court-appointed legal commissioner U. Sagayam.
Recording the submission, the First Bench headed by Chief Justice S.K. Kaul posted a public interest litigation petition moved by ‘Traffic’ K.R. Ramaswamy to July 28 for further hearing.
In his plea, Mr. Ramaswamy alleged that the State had incurred a heavy loss due to the irregularities in the allotment of mining lease.
In a recent hearing, the Madras High Court ordered notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the CB-CID to decide on the further investigation in connection with the illegal granite mining.
The question now would be as to how further the investigation has to be carried out and whether it is required to be entrusted to the CB-CID, the CBI or the current situation has to be maintained, the Bench said, adding: We would like to have one more report be filed by the State government in this aspect.”
