NTPC opens Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project

 

New Delhi | May 26, 2016: State-run NTPC today announced the opening of its Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project in Jharkhand.

 

"The company has opened Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project (Western Pit)," NTPC Ltd said in a BSE filing.

 

NTPC had earlier said that it was targeting to begin production at Pakri-Barwadih coal block in 2015.

 

Last year, NTPC was reallotted five coal blocks that were cancelled earlier by the Supreme Court.

 

The five blocks include Chatti-Bariatu, Chatti-Bariatu (South) and Kerandari in Jharkhand, Dulanga in Odisha and Talaipalli in Chhattisgarh.

 

In the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17), NTPC added 9,639 MW capacity, making it the companys highest capacity addition in a Plan period. In the last Plan period, it added 9,610 MW capacity.

 

The company has set a target of adding 11,900 MW capacity during the current Plan period ending in 2016-17.

 

It has set a target of installed power generating capacity of 1,28,000 MW by 2032, according to its website.
