Margao | May 02, 2016: Two Indian companies have shown interest in the tender of the bio-mining project, which is to be undertaken at Sonsodo by the Goa State Urban Development Agency.
The project will be able to dispose the entire dump in one-and-a-half years and free the landfill site, provided the administration supplies additional land for separating and dumping different types of waste. Ajay Jain of Ecopro Environmental Services, the consultant for the bio-mining project, said that two companies, E-Tech Projects and Blackberry Overseas, had shown interest in the work and were qualified.
“GSUDA will hold negotiations on the modalities of the work and the companies will also have to provide securities before the tender is awarded. If the tender is awarded and work order is issued soon, the work can begin at the onset of the monsoon,” said Jain.
He continued, “The contractor will need 60 days to get the segregator to the site and install it. However, sites for dumping segregated waste have to be provided by the MMC as soon as possible as the contractor won’t be able to work without the sites.”
Jain informed that such projects had been taken up in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and had been completed successfully and on time.
“The process is simple and can be completed in little time, subject to the land available,” said Jain. He has already given a presentation on the bio-mining project to the MMC and the latter has agreed to take up the same on condition that the MMC and PWD find additional land for the landfill site.
