Bhopal | April 08, 2016: Gwalior bench of high court has directed the government to declare banks of Chambal river no-vehicle zone to check illegal mining of sand. Among other directions, the court also asked government to install CCTV cameras at the banks where illegal mining takes place.
Additional advocate general Arvind Dudawat said the government has been asked to submit a compliance report in four weeks. IG of Chambal, SP Morena and collector of Morena have been asked to appear in the court on May 6, he said. Hearing a petition filed by Rakhi Sharma, the court issued directives. Her advocate Raju Sharma said court has exempted police and forest department vehicles from moving around river banks as they supervise anti-mining operations.Court directed the government to demolish illegal roads and pathways created to access river bank for mining.
Among other directions, the court asked patrolling on boats and vehicles, satellite imagery monitoring of mining, check-posts and barricades on Agra Mumbai highway at Morena, at least 15 feet wide rumble strip of speed-breakers be constructed in front of each barrier so that no vehicle can pass it without stopping and adequate number of armed personnel of SAF be deployed at each post.
