Udupi | January 13, 2016: Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials from the Department of Mines and Geology with the help of other departments raided a sand extraction site in the Varahi at Kandlur in Kavarady village of Kundapur taluk on Tuesday and seized two lorries.
In a complaint lodged with the police, the team said that sand extraction was being conducted on survey number 157 without permit. The lorries were overloaded with sand. Hence, they were confiscated. A case had been registered under Mines and Minerals Regulation of Development Act and Karnataka Minor Mineral Consistent Rule and Indian Motor Vehicle Act at the Kundapur police station, the police said.
