Nagpur | Jan 07, 2016: It could certainly termed pilfering of coal in massive magnitude as numerous heavy trucks transporting the coal are being run on the basis of bogus documents. The 10 and 12-wheelers trucks operate in Indar Colliery, Kamptee-Gondegaon Opencast Mine (OCM) of Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL). It is learnt that most of the heavy trucks transporting the coal are operated with the help of fraudulent documents. The coal mined from these opencast mines is transported to Dumri siding, 12 kms away. The transporting of coal is generally done by 10 and 12-wheelers trucks. After loading 15-20 tons of coal, these trucks reach the siding by using the National Highway No. 7. However, it has come to notice that most of the truckers possess duplicate documents of their vehicles. A demand for high-level probe into the matter is being raised since past many days. Being unauthorized trucks could apparently point out pilfering of coal in gigantic proportions.
According to WCL sources, the valid documents of trucks or any other vehicles used for transporting of coal are deposited with Dispatch Department. The Mines Manager, after perusing the documents, permits the appropriate vehicles. However, even after the checks most of the trucks are found transporting coal with the help of fake documents. According to rules of Regional Transport Office (RTO) the vehicles must possess valid road tax, insurance, registration documents. The Heavy weight vehicles even require fitness certificates issued by RTO.
However, only a few vehicles have been found possessing valid papers. On the other hand, many of the truckers are found operating in the coal mines without valid papers thereby making mockery of rules and regulations. The Office of WCL’s Chief General Manager, commenting on the reports, said that it has received complaints regarding trucks transporting coal without valid RTO documents. The Sub-Area Manager of Gondegaon and Kamptee has been directed to inspect the documents of all the vehicles. But the report of the Sub-Area Manager has not been received so far, stated the office.
The Local Manager put the ball in Mine Manager’s court by saying that the responsibility of inspecting the vehicle documents lies with only. The Local Manager refused to comment further.
