KANNUR | Dec 31, 2015: Clearance has been given for restricted sand mining at the ‘kadavus’ (sand extracting points) of the Valapattanam, Thalassery, Mahe, Perumba and Kuppam rivers in the district.

The district administration on Wednesday issued orders giving the clearance for sand mining in fixed quantity from the kadavus in the rivers.

The sand mined from the kadavus will be sold under the e-Sand system, an official press release here said.

The orders allow mining from January 4.

The orders issued by the District Collector directed the local bodies to enforce provisions in the environmental clearance as also the orders of courts, National Green Tribunal, and the government regarding river protection.

The Collector asked the secretaries of the local bodies concerned to ensure that the kadavus complied with the orders.
