Utkal Alumina Celebrates Mines Safety Week

 

Bhubaneswar | Nov 25, 2015:

The 33rd “Odisha Metal-ferrous Mines Safety Week Celebration 2015” held under the aegis of DGMS (Directorate General of Mining Survey)- BBSR Region, received wide participation. At Utkal Alumina International Ltd.’s, Baphlimali mines, the criticality of safety at the workplace and relentlessly following safe mining practices was further stressed.

 

Inspection Team comprising of Sr. Manager of Daitari Mines (OMC), Mr. P K Mohanty Manger of Indian Rare Earth, Chatrapur & Mr. A K Pradhan of OMC, South Kaliapani have reviewed the activities of Utkal’s Mines and surroundings, with the official of DGMS Mr.DS Bhaumika – providing the oversight. In their view, the safety measures adopted by Utkal were notable. The Inspection Team of DGMS –while delivering their speech applauded the efforts made by Utkal Alumina Team with regard to observing safety norm in the mining activity. Senior executives of UAIL Sri Raghunath Pratihari, VP (HR, Admin & CSR), Sri B. R. K. Padhi, AVP (Mines) and Teams along with workforce have embedded safety in their work culture.

 

The message to the mining fraternity to further promote safety awareness amongst the workmen and to improve their participation in safety management was loud and clear. Speaking on the occasion, the Unit Head of UAIL Sri Vijay Sapra said , “Safety and Security of each one in Utkal Alumina has been our first and foremost priority and these are non-negotiable values beyond any compromise. Safety is of paramount importance for us and we are adhering to all directives of the DGMS .We are always prepared to walk an extra mile to set higher and higher standards on safe work environment.”

 

Later on the Chief guest Mr. Sapra distributed prizes to the winners of competition held in the week long mines safety week, for safety essay, safety slogans, safety drawing . At last Safety drama “ Baphilimali Hasuchi” was played by the artist of Theatre Odisha, Sunabeda. Aditya Birla Public School students, the workmen and their family members, contractors, consultants, suppliers and local villagers were most enthused and their active engagement went a long way towards re-kindling the importance of safety. Pictorials, slogans and playing the safety song, kawalis, Dhemsa Dance and drama, forcefully drove home the message, in an enjoyable fashion. Importantly, the mining fraternity took an oath to implement the safety culture in all spheres of mining activities.

 

Among others Sri Shrrenatah Mishra, AVP(F& C), Sri Rakesh Mishra, GM – (Admin & CSR) Sri Mukesh Jha, AGM Mines were also present on the occasion.
