Dhanbad | Nov 04, 2015: In the wake of Prime Minister Nerandra Modi’s plan to give a boost to mineral extractions to net `4 lakh crore in the next five year, an Australian delegation on Tuesday rushed to Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad to review the possible prospect and potential opportunities in the field.
A two member team compromising Australian Deputy High Commissioner Chris Elstoft and Drce Murphy, Counsellor of Industries and Sciences visited ISM and discussed on several points for possible partnerships between ISM and Australian institutions.
This visit follows the agreement between PM Modi and Tony Abbott (then Australian Prime Minister) in Brisbane in November last year to strengthen economic and other relations between the two countries.
In a bid to promote cooperation in coal technology, research and educational exchange programmes between ISM and Australian institutions, the delegation took a review on several points.
As part of an exchange programme for undergraduate, graduate, faculty members and research fellows, ISM already signed MoUs with five Australian Universities and Research Centers includes New Castle University, Curtin University and Monash University, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station (SIMTARS).
SIMTARS provides services in research, consulting, testing and certification to improve your business’s safety and health. Services include testing and certification, occupational hygiene, gas analysis systems and safety services while CSIRO is the federal government agency for scientific research in Australia works with leading organisations around the world, , said an ISM official.
The delegates rushed to evaluate the infrastructures including others to start the educational exchange programme earliest, said the official.
“For growth it’s a major step, as both countries expressed the collective desire for cooperation in the resources sector which would be of significant advantage for both of the countries”, he added.
