No decision taken yet on bauxite mining in Vizag district: Andhra CM

Visakhapatnam | Oct 13, 2015: The State Government has not taken any decision with regard to bauxite mining in Visakhapatnam district's eastern ghats (popularly known as agency area) and therefore the status quo continues in the matter, the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, has said.

He told this to presspersons here on Monday. The CM's comments assume significance as the Maoists, who are active in the agency area, have abducted 3 ruling Telugu Desam party leaders, demanding a statement from the State Government that it will not take up bauxite mining in the area.

The Chief Minister said the interests of Girijans in the area would never be compromised and nothing would be done against their interests.

Earlier, the family members of the three kidnapped TDP leaders met the Chief Minister and appealed to him to get the leaders freed. The Chief Minister gave them an assurance that all efforts would be made to bring them back safely. "It is a delicate issue and party leaders and others should exercise restraint in the mattrer," he said.
