1908 people arrested in illegal sand mining, transportation, attack on officials

 

Andhra Pradesh | Aug 31, 2015: The Government today stated in the House that as many as 1908 people were arrested for illegal sand mining , transport and attacks against concerned government officials, opposition party leaders who were stopping illegal transport of sand during January and July 31, 2015.

 

Replying to question raised by members in the house during question hour, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Home N Chinarajappa said the government has registered cases against attackers and action as per IPC is instantiated as per facts.

 

A total number of 1109 cases have been booked in which 1908 people have been arrested and 3515 lorries/ vans seized for illegal sand mining, transport and related issues this year, the Home Minister said.

 

The government had taken several steps to ensure such attack against government officials do not recur, the Minister informed.

 

The government had installed CCTV cameras at sand reaches for transportation of sand in a transparent manner and special action against habitual sand smugglers under PD Act is being contemplated, , he added.UNI KNR GM 1657
