Mahendragarh stone crushers under Labour Department scanner

After the collapse of a stone crusher wall that which left 11 labourers dead two days ago, more than 100 stone crushers in the district have come under the scanner of the Labour Department which has been directed to inspect these plants to find out conditions under which labourers are working there. Labour Department officials have also been directed to ensure proper implementation of the Building and Other Construction Workers’ (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Service) Act, 1996, at the crusher plants for labourers’ safety and health.

 

Ravi Yadav, Additional Director (Labour), Haryana, issued the directives today while inspecting the stone crusher a wall of which collapsed in Dholera village two days ago. “The state government has formed a special committee to identify the technical lapses in construction done by the New Satyam Stone Crusher Plant owners. We will submit the inquiry report to the government before August 14,” said Yadav. He maintained other crusher plants too would be inspected and stern action taken against those found violating the rules. As per official record, 84 stone crusher plants are being operated in Mahendragarh district but their actual number is much higher, said sources.

 

Meanwhile, Narnaul SDM Mahesh Kumar said “Since a no-objection certificate (NoC) from the Pollution Control Department and a licence from mining authorities are required before establishing the plant, hence we have asked these departments to submit their reports about New Satyam Stone Crusher Plant.
