Remaining dump iron ore to be lifted before start of mining operations in Goa in Oct: CM

 

Panaji | Aug 05, 2015: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today informedthe Goa Assembly that the State Government has earned a revenue ofRs 7.6 crores selling dump iron ore after six auctions from 2014to January 2015.

 

Mr Parsekar, who is also Minister for Mines, was replying to aquestion tabled by BJP MLA Subhash Phaldessai during Question Houron auction of iron ore'. He said the total quantity of ironore was 6.3 million tonnes, out of which 5.6 million tonnes werepurchased by bidders and the remaining ore would also be transported before start of mining operation in the state in October 2015.

 

Mr Parsekar said there was a lot of obstruction in shifting ofiron ore due to falling of prices of iron ore and even Mormugao PortTrust ( MPT) were demanding storage charges.

 

Replying to a supplementary, Chief Minister said any truck, localor from other states, could transport the ore where there wasdemand.

 

The state government had taken care of local truck owners afterthe mining ban in Goa, for one time settlement for trucks on loanand had also given subsidy to truck owners who were affected due tothe mining ban, he added.

 

Earlier, Mr Phaldesai raised the issue that other state truckowners brought by bidders to lift the iron ore at cheaper rateswould affect the already suffering local truck owners due to thebanning of mining and urged the government that the transporting ofiron ore should be given to local truck owners.
