Makerwal Colliery on 6.7.1942

Makerwal Colliery

Date of the Accident - 6.7.1942
Number of persons killed - 14
Owner - Petman & Kapoor
Place - Now in Pakistan

Flood water of a hilly “nallah” flowing close to the mine entered the underground workings through the incline.

No danger had been apprehended from this “nallah” in the past. However, on this occasion, the flood waters carried down with them large boulders and deposited them near a bridge on the “nallah”. As a result, the passage of water was partially choked and the water level rose beyond all previous records.
