Flood water of a “nallah” flowing close to the inclines rose above the level of the inclines and completely filled up the mine workings. 13 women who were loading dust coal got drowned.
Water of this “nallah” had never risen to this height in the past 40 years. However, 4 years prior to this accident, a tramway bridge had been built over the “nallah” a little downstream from the mine. Owing to this bridge and the embankments approaching it, free flow of flood waters was obstructed and as a result the water was pounded back.
