Description :

This paper highlights the work place noise status of a leading iron ore mine complex in India. The study covers noise monitoring of different Heavy Earth Moving Machineries (HEMM) in the mines during its operation. The noise levels at extraction area were found reasonably high in comparison to the permissible limits set by statutory bodies. The existing noise status was critically characterized and analyzed, and subsequently suitable noise control measures were suggested to ameliorate the noise environment. Frequency spectrum analysis was also carried out to determine the dominant frequency of the machine operation.
